Presbyterian Health, Education and Welfare Association (PHEWA) Consultation on Criminal Justice

A consultation on the complex issues surrounding criminal justice in the United States has been scheduled for Feb. 17 – 19, 2012 at Stony Point Center. This consultation is the result of collaborative efforts on the part of the Presbyterian Health Education and Welfare Association (PHEWA), the Presbytery of Hudson River and the Presbytery of New York City. The two presbyteries petitioned the Assembly to restore the denomination’s criminal justice program, which was cut in 2006 due to staff and budget reductions.  In response to those overtures, the Assembly called for a consultation to explore the development of a new PHEWA network around criminal justice issues.

Are you feeling broken-hearted about the state of our democracy? Are you wondering how you might help make it what you know it could be? We extend an invitation to anyone yearning for greater meaning, authenticity, and sense of purpose in personal life, work, and community to explore their “soul and role” as citizens in our democracy. Over this weekend we will contemplate five “habits of the heart” described in Parker J. Palmer’s Healing the Heart of Democracy: The Courage to Create a Politics Worthy of the Human Spirit
: understanding we are all in this together, appreciating the value of “otherness,” holding tension in life-giving ways, generating a sense of personal voice and agency, and strengthening our capacity to create community.

Cost of the weekend: $420 double occupancy, $495 single occupancy.
If you have any questions, please contact Cat Greenstreet at cgreenstreet1@verizon.net.

So-Mahng Presbyterian Church at SPC (again)

It seems we've been seeing a lot of So-Mahng Presbyterian Church lately. This past weekend we had two different groups from the same church! They've been coming to SPC for the last ten years. We're certainly grateful for their loyalty. Their youth visisted us last weekend. They had a great time and spent lots of time singing. See you again soon!
