Loving Hands: February 5-7

A retreat to learn about, and to knit or crochet, loving gifts. Using an interactive format, this program is designed for folk who never did it; did it but forgot how; started but did not finish, as well as, experienced yarn workers. With love and laughter, participants will work through a basic pattern and also take with them the seed for developing "loving hands circles" in their home or church community. Friday dinner through Sunday lunch. Cost: $180.00/person. Additional fee for supplies (optional).

Loving Hands is open to all skill levels of knitters and crocheters. The goal is to complete a loving gift (prayer shawl, preemie cap, preemie blanket, slippers, helmet liner, stoma or trachea covers, scarves etc.) in the company of a like-minded group, and to spend a week-end away from everything, while relaxing.

The program will include grounding, centering, reflecting, learning to or reinforcing yarn working as a loving gift that extends to the finished product. Participants are invited to bring their own yarn, hooks, needles and unfinished projects. If you would like, we will provide sufficient yarn and needles for a prayer shawl. (Materials Cost: $20.00)

Since her retirement in 2005, after 25 years of Labor and Employment law, Kathryn has been a Volunteer at Retreat and Conference Centers across the country. She cherishes, and can talk for hours, about her varied volunteer experiences at Ghost Ranch in New Mexico, Meadowkirk in Virginia and now at Stony Point. Taught by her mother and grandmothers, she brings her passion for all forms of hand-work with fabric and yarns to this program. She also brings the shared knowledge of beginning, setting down and picking-up numerous hand-work projects, some of which have been completed.

The basis for the Loving Hands program is a Knitting into the Mystery, Prayer Shawl Ministry workshop Kathryn attended at Kirkridge Retreat Center in 2005. An experienced workshop and retreat attendee, she is grateful and excited to be leading this program.

Cost covers meals and a shared double room in one of our lodges. If requested at registration, a limited number of private rooms may be available at an additional cost.
